Bakemonogatari
Start here; it defines the style and cast.
A release-order route for one of anime's most famous nonlinear supernatural franchises.
First-time viewers should use novel order: Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Nekomonogatari Black, Second Season, Hanamonogatari, Tsukimonogatari, Owarimonogatari, Koyomimonogatari, Owarimonogatari Second Season, Zoku Owarimonogatari, then Off & Monster Season. This preserves planned reveals better than strict chronology.

Monogatari constantly revisits events from another character's perspective. The light-novel sequence intentionally places Kizumonogatari early, then moves backward and forward to change how viewers interpret Araragi and the people around him. Anime broadcast order delayed Kizumonogatari because of production timing, so novel order now gives a smoother first experience.
The story includes flashbacks, overlapping arcs, narrated gaps, and events remembered unreliably. A date-by-date order can be assembled, but it fragments seasons and sometimes individual episode blocks. That can be fascinating after finishing the series, yet it replaces deliberate questions with answers the viewer was not meant to have so soon.
Anime release order begins with Bakemonogatari and delays the Kizumonogatari film trilogy until after several later productions. It remains valid for viewers who want the historical broadcast experience. For clarity, our sequence follows the source novel placement, keeps Hanamonogatari after Second Season, places Koyomimonogatari before Owarimonogatari's second season, and continues into Off & Monster Season.
A strict chronology starts with early Shinobu material and Kizumonogatari, then breaks later collections into their internal arcs. Because Second Season, Koyomimonogatari, and Owarimonogatari contain stories set at different points, a truly chronological list means jumping between releases. We do not recommend that for newcomers; complete each listed entry in novel order and use the timeline tab only as a rewatch reference.
Helpful reminders in a dense series, but safe to skip when watching close together.
Short episodes that appear minor but should be completed before Owarimonogatari Second Season.
Do not omit it; its unusual timeline position is intentional.
Bonus material for established fans, outside the essential animated route.
The changing prefixes are not numbered seasons. Follow a curated sequence rather than a streaming service's title sorting.
Koyomimonogatari and Hanamonogatari may look secondary, but both carry character and plot material used later.
After Bakemonogatari for the source-novel route and strongest early character context.
No. It requires splitting collections and weakens the intended reveals.
No. Watch it before Owarimonogatari Second Season.
